I upgraded the front shocks on my stock suspension, small tire '79 Malibu to the Afco BNC double adjustable out front. I'm working on dialing in the settings and am getting closer.

What surprises me is how stiff or firm the front end needs to be to keep the front end down to a reasonable level.

I currently have the compression set at max 24 clicks. On rebound I started at 10 clicks, then moved to 12, then 14, now sitting at 16 clicks from full soft. I really think the front end could use another 2 or 4 clicks, or take another 1/2" or so of travel out. Full extension travel is 5 1/2" at the spindle centerline, currently limited 1" down to 4 1/2" net travel.

How tight are some of you faster Stockers or Super stockers going on rebound setting???

Car as mentioned is a '79 malibu, GM triangulated 4 link coil spring car, 3400 lbs w/driver, mid 9's @ 140, 60's in the high 1.2x to low 1.3x range footbraking.

thanks

Sample image of the launch from this past weekend. My goal is to be able to eventually take the wheelie bars off once I get a firm handle on the front end tuneup.

I can, but the current set of limiters can only take a total of 2" of travel out. I can't rmember for sure, but the car leaves well with 1" of travel taken out, seems I remember the car almost grunting last fall with 1 1/2" taken out and the shocks set pretty firm on rebound.

I guess I've just been sneaking up on the setup trying to see how the car reacts.

There also seems to be some discrepancy on opinions of what works better to keep the front end down, limiters vs tightening rebound.

Just like a stocker, I've got to be careful on how the front end is setup. If I go too far, it won't transfer weight and it'll blow the DOT Drag Radials off, and too loose and it'll go for the bumper. It's a fine balancing act and after flattening the headers twice last fall, I'm taking baby steps to get the front end under control.

With a 2.48 1st gear th400, 6000 stall 8" converter, 4.33 gear with a 27 3/4" diameter radial tire, it leaves pretty hard for what it is.

My opinion I would not use the limiters to adjust rise. By doing this your take away the travel of the shocks to help settle the car or the shock will not have enough travel when coming down to compress and will unsettle car or unload tires. I have 83 Monte and started adding weight to the front. I'm a dot tire and have added 40 lbs up front with good results. I was turning on NOS at .3 seconds out and the car would go a little to high and lose some ET plus 3 wheelie bounces after coming down. With the 40 lbs I'm now .15 seconds out and the wheelie is nice and 1 bounce after coming down. I have about 4 1/2 inches of travel. Single adjustables though so my shock settings won't help you. I'm surprised at how stiff your setting is though.
