Default Strange Disc brake setup.

Thinking about buying the Strange front bake setup for my 67 Fairlane, what is the consensus, are they a plug an play setup, or do they require fabrication, shimming, ? and after the installation how is the pad wear? brake drag? Thanks.

Lamb gets my vote, if your spindle needs machine work they do it, when you put it back together just bolt everything on and go. No shimming and no drag, no kidding.

Lamb is top shelf, but Strange brakes are a very good product, usually for a lot less $$$ .... I just installed a set of Strange front discs on a 71 Mustang stocker, ... The kit fit perfectly, no modifications ... It did require the use of earlier model spindles,but so did everyone elses. ....Tom

Pat, your Fairlane takes the same install kit as the Mustang did. .... The pads that come with the kit are a good starting point,and will work well for most cars .. I usually end up going to a Hawk black pad if it's a heavy, fast car. ... The Willwood Gator pads are good if you want a really agressive pad for the finish line! .... Tom

I have to agree with Bob ... Lamb is the way to go But if you cant spend that kind of money do yourself a favor and buy something other than Aerospace

just wondering I have read on here before about LAMB or M-W being the best and most $$$$ ,strange being next , no one ever has any positive commets on aerospace
I see WILWOOD on alot of cars drag race & circle track just ?? what are problems or negative issues..... we have put them on 3 different cars with no problems .

From my own personal experience i have had several issues that have formed a pretty stong opinion on this subject.

My first set of aftermarket brakes were Aerospace and I was in no financial position to afford anything else at the time . From the moment I installed them I had problems . For starters the brakes dragged from the moment I installed the caliper , one of them so bad that i checked the rotor with test indicator . After several checks I found that the rotor was warped not only from side to side but the diameter of the rotor was out of round . Basicly the rotor wasn't concentric with the spindle . So I ( HAD) to buy another rotor and the fit seemed better . Well while bleeding the brakes ,once most of the air was out I noticed that the caliper was moving as the brakes were applied . Agian I get the indicater out and sure enough the caliper bracket was flexing as the brakes were being applied . Convincing myself this was normal I started racing the car and after several trips to the race track I noticed the backside of the wheel seemed to be moist and collecting dust . On further inspection It was clear the piston seal was leaking . So I took the caliper apart and found a tool crash mark in the bore of the caliper . And its location affected the groove that the seal sits in . So I obviously paid for soemthing that had zero quality control but maybee just a fluke . After speaking with several other racers I learned that it wasnt a fluke . SO out of disgust after the lack of response from the manufacturer .... I sold them to somebody else .... I got almost 2.90 cents for them at the state recycling center !!!

Next I bought a set of wilwoods and they were better than the aero's . But i was constantly having to re shim the caliper to keep the brakes from dragging. I ran these for 5 years and they served me well other than the brakes dragging .

so then I get a set of lambs and wow what a difference in every aspect . The fit and finish are flawless .. the attention to detail in manufacturing and design is evident in every part with absolutely no drag . And best of all is that the Lamb family take care of you with great customer service ... and again in life I learned you get what you pay for and as always you must give something to get something ...
