Anybody know for sure whether or not an aftermarket (tubular) front K-member is allowed in SS/GT?
(if using factory spindles/control arms)

Not allowed in RWD cars, only on FWD conversion cars.

I don't race SS/GT, but I can't understand this ruling. I hear more than one SS/GT competitor using late model vehicles have had cracks found in the OEM (built for gas mileage, lite-weight stamped steel) k-frames.
I thought I read on here awhile back that SS/GT racers were looking at using CM tubular k-frames but retaining OEM control arms. Seems if that is acceptable to the FWD conversion SS/GT's, then it should apply to RWD SS/GT cars. I know you can trim the OEM k-frame for pan clearance so I cant imagine there's much, if any, weight savings on a CM k-frame over a stamped steel k-frame. Or am I missing something?

During the building of my car (RWD) I asked about the K-member deal. I was told as long as I started with a stock K-member I could do what ever I pleased with it. Of course mine is a modified car, yet I fail to see the difference. I'm not sure why they allow so much in the way of changes in the FWD cars I'm assuming it's geared toward safety and durability.

Given all you're allowed on a FWD conversion car the next one I build will likely be that type of car. Looking at many of them they resemble a chassis car with stock frt. frame rails.
