I have raced for years in lots of classes but never raced much off the bottom bulb and thought about building a stocker. I would like to build it on a moderate budget if possible to see how I like it and to get my feet wet. Seeing as I already have this car I thought maybe I would just use it.
It's a 2001 Ford Mustang GT with a 4.6 and a automatic. I don't know for sure what class it would run, but I think it would fit in H/SA. If those with knowledge on this car would please point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Stefan |

There are better choices for a entry level car, Check out some of the "dime rocket" ideas. Something like my wagon with a V8 makes a pretty competitive stocker at a low buy in. You could probably sell the mustang and build a decent car with out much extra investment.

I'd like to run at least low 12's or faster.

My son's 78 Dodge 318 Wagon is similar to what Phillip is talking about.
It runs low 12's or Faster (Look at Record). It ran Mid 11's with small cam 360 Engine. If Jeff does not set P/SA record with his mustang this weekend....we may take a shot at it ourselves to go with O/SA record if I get my stitches out. There is nothing expensive or exotic in it and everybody is invited to take a look if it is apart. You could build one on a working guy's budget and run pretty well ! |

You might look into Jim Johnston's S/S Chevelle, It's priced right as a entry level car and probably wouldn't take much to convert to a stocker if you have your heart set on running stock.
If you have any interest in doing a Mopar I know of a couple Aspens that are available locally, 1 wagon and a 2 door. My wagon has gone 11.80s with the 360 that was built in 1993 and I haven't touched the short block since. . Knowing your driving style I would suggest you look into buying a done A-D car though. Cost more to get into but if you don't like the racing you wont lose to much when you sell. Or maybe build that 56 you have? There are guy's on this forum that have the engine parts you would need for it.

Where do you live? The car is a natural "I" add weight to "J" Stocker or if you live close to an IHRA track it's a natural "E" add weight to "F" pure stock.
