Hey All
Bear with me, learning the ropes..any and all help appreciated. A 74 Challenger with 360 car would run SS/LA as its "native" class @ 3508 pounds +170 for driver. SS/LA index is 11.45/7.36 national record is 10.60 @ 125.6 It would be required to run the same carburetor as the same car in Stock class (thermoquad 6453 or 6455S) It can run a single 4 bbl carb aftermarket intake as long as it will accept a thermoquad? Can a holley intake be modified to accept a thermoquad? Can Intakes be ported in SS - It doesn't address this in the rules for or against? It would run heads from the same list as a car running Stock class? Do super stock pistons have to come from the list of NHRA approved stock pistons? The rulebook just says "replacement pistons permitted" and then lists qualifiers. Also: This makes no sense to me: Dish pistons must retain half of original depth, and original diameter and configuration. Dish pistons must hold no less than original volume, per NHRA blueprint specs. How could a dish be half of the original depth, original diameter and configuration, but still hold the original volume? What? Any and all help appreciated. Thanks Steve |

Any TQ that has the same venturi and throttle plate dimensions..Same as stock. Any intake that keeps the carb in the same location, front to back, side to side. Yes ,you can use whatever head casting you want as long as it's listed for that make, model ,year. Any piston that looks something like the original on top, with the correct dome/dish volume. We can assume that you would want to increase the valve reliefs substantially,as ANY lift lift is legal in SS. Therefore, they would hold quite a few more cc's than stock. Now you can decrease the original dish height to compensate. Make sense now? Good luck. That's all I know about 360 Mopars

Over the years, several intakes were extensively modified to work with a TQ, including LD 340, Offenhauser Port-O-Sonic (with popsicle sticks) and the Holley Strip Dominator. |

We prefer a professionally ported andflowed Victor manifold if a Super Victor will not fit under hood.
On the big and small mopars, there are some additional Mopar Performance heads that are legal only in Super Stock sometimes at additional five horsepower and they are worth it. Feel free to E Mail me if you need additional info as we have run this combo over the years and might be able to save you some grief. Racer7411@yahoo.com |

You can build your own sheet metal intake in SS. Actually, I don't think there are limitations on the material. There are plastic or composite intakes out there. As Mark stated, same basic configuration (TQ facing forward as stock and sitting somewhat in the middle) and as long as you can shut the hood, your good to go.

Both are great combos currently.......have been reduced quite a bit over the years. I believe 360 is currently 269 in your body=== I ran it about 10 years ago at 285 and it was fine in my Volare with similiar to worse engine specs and a low budget. The 340 is at 266 currently in low ratio ( Mike Loge runs it in L solmetimes with a 9 inch tire stocker body Cuda). MY Dart has run K with no changes other than remove weight and will run under the index a
couple tenths with my stocker engine which tells you it is pretty soft combo. Really the Drag Packs in GT are only small block combos that are appreciably better in my opinion. Last edited by GTX JOHN; 04-06-2011 at 01:39 PM. |
