Default Ted Barnes Wins 2008 TNT Season Opener at Dunn Tire Raceway Park!

LANCASTER, NEW YORK (April 27, 2008) The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series opened its 2008 season at Dunn Tire Raceway Park (DTRP). The April 27th event presented by Steve’s Electric had perfect weather for drag racing – cool temperatures, slight crosswind and sunny skies – density altitude of around 1000’ all day long. Even this early in the season, the popular sportsman series drew 23 competitors.

After qualifying session one, Sam Lovetro Jr sat atop the field with a 7.0011 pass and almost had the $50 Hoosier Tire Canada certificate wrapped up. Until Gary Stowell from Macedon, New York posted a near perfect 7.0009 in session two to take the top spot and pick up the award along with the full 16 qualifying point bonus.

April 27th was also DTRP’s opening bracket points race where a total of 5 Ironman trophies were awarded to each of the bracket class winners. Many of the TNT drivers did double duty this day. One team that took advantage of the opportunity was the Performance Improvements team of Ted & Bill Barnes. The Barnes pair found themselves going rounds in both classes and ended up in both final rounds. The TNT final was a squeaker – Ted met up with number one qualifier Gary Stowell and with almost identical reaction times, Ted took the win by .004 seconds (running a 7.030 to Gary’s 7.031). Along the way, Ted had to face tough competition from Anthony Platania, Joe Passero and Jason Vitez. (Ted wasn’t so lucky in the Top ET final – Westley Coyea took the Ironman home!)

“The car was deadly consistent all day long. That’s the result of the tune-up that Scott Conrad puts in this hot rod and the expertise of the Performance Improvements staff in providing the right parts,” commented Ted. “And my Dad…I want to thank him. He doesn’t stop from the minute we get to the track to the minute we leave. Racing the car is one thing. Running the TNT series AND racing the car is another…and without my Dad, there is no way I could do both!”

Ted wanted to thank Steve McCarrick from Steve’s Electric in Phelp’s New York for presenting today’s race and Joe Boniferro from Joe’s Transmission for being the series sponsor. “Without folks like them, this series would not be possible,” he added. Helping to facilitate the TNT duties this day were Russ & Arlene Parker and Ryan Boniferro. “They took care of most of the TNT paperwork so Dad & I could focus on racing!”

Other support for the Barnes team includes – Top Quality Transmission, F&M Signs, Steel City Spring, Skyway Lawn Equipment and MG Digital Media. Product support comes from Pennzoil-Quaker State, Crane Cams, Wix Filters and Clevite Engine Parts.

The top 5 in the 2008 Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series points standings after race #1 are:

1. Ted Barnes 117
2. Gary Stowell 98
3. David Surmatchewski 81
4. Harris Phelps 67
5. Ken Jozwiak 64
Jason Vitez 64

The next event on the TNT Super Series schedule is Friday June 13th at Dunn Tire Raceway Park.

Cripes! You guys are dialed for it being so early in the season! And what's with the 7.0000000000000000000000001 ET? Did Lancaster get a new atomic timing system?

Congrats on your win Ted...
