Thanks: Everyone in Division 7 is going to
miss his presence at the Track. A real Superstar of Stock and
Superstock racing and always willing to help and advise
everyone who requested it.

He is gone too soon.....But will be remembered for a very
long time!

I am hoping work will allow me to make the long trek out to
the service.

I'm sure Dave Lebrun and Alan Peters are a part of that conversation. Too many good men and women of our sport have left us the past few years. Rest in Peace Mr. Wann.

There is one great bench racing session going on in Heaven as we remember all the ones that we have lost recently.

Unhappy Re: Don Wann’s Celebration of Life

First let me offer my heartfelt condolences to Steve Wann and his family, in memory of the honorable man known to us as Don Wann. I only had the pleasure of meeting this legendary icon of Stock and Super Stock drag racing once (I believe in 'Vegas), but I had been a fan of his long before I knew Steve was his son. I got to know of Mr. Don Wann through the car magazines coverage of national events he was in (and won)! However, I didn't get to know of Steve, until I moved to Phoenix 12yrs ago, and started D7 racing.

In memory of Don, I am hoping someone reading this still has the magazine that I told Steve, had a picture of his dad with a "French Curl" to his mustache, back in either the 70's or the 80's. My first guess is it was in a "Super Stock and Drag Illustrated" issue. However, it could've been in one of the other race covering magazines of that era...Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, or even National Dragster or Drag News? I hope someone who reads this, can find the issue of the magazine the picture was in....I know Steve would love to see, and have it to add to his vast and fond memories of his father, mentor, and the great racer known to us as Don Wann!

I first met Don Wann at Columbus in 1994 or 95. Don and Steve were travelling with Rob Youngblood, who had qualified for the All Star event. I too had read about Don and seen pictures of the cars that he drove for years in National Dragster. I was new to Stock Eliminator and meeting Don Wann was like standing at the ropes and getting a signature from a Pro Stock driver to me.

Don always reminded me of the Marlboro man, or an old West gunfighter: slow and quiet speaking, with lightning fast reflexes. He told me stories of not have enough money to pay the rent, so he’d go to a bracket race and win the damn thing to pay the bills! Don was quite a racer and our community will miss him.

When my kids were all little they would always go talk with Don and he would tell the boys stories about racing, we will all miss those days but have some great memories to all talk about, John
