Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals to be contested on June 21-23 minus SS, STK, SC, SG, TD and TS
Due to significant rainfall, some racer pit areas of Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park will not be fit for use during the upcoming Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. NHRA officials will be rescheduling some portions of the event in order to properly accommodate competitors. In addition to the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series (Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle), the following categories will compete at the event in Norwalk June 21-23: Pro Mod, Factory Stock Showdown, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car. All other categories that were slated to compete at the event will be rescheduled for another date to be determined. These categories are Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. All participants may use their credentials from the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals to compete in this future event. “While we expect pleasant weather during the actual event,” said track owner Bill Bader. “Water levels in the grassy areas will not decrease enough to provide adequate pit parking for all competitors. Mother Nature has forced our hand and it makes me sick. Sportsman racing is the foundation on which we’ve built our racetrack, you’re our valued customers and friends! It’s important that we accommodate you properly and we hope you will return when we can provide you with the wonderful experience you deserve, on solid ground.” Ticketholders for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals may use their tickets to attend both portions of the event. Additional details to follow regarding the date and entry process for the postponed portion of the event.

There was a few rumors going around this weekend this might happen but I didn't think it was the right thing to report in the "Live" from Bristol thread since it was just a rumor. I did talk with a NHRA official that said at the time they were looking at all possible solutions but wanted to make a timely decision if that was possible. From my understanding the pits are soaked at Norwalk with more rain forecast and low temperatures that are not conducive to drying. I know not a popular decision but probably the right one......

My guess is that it will be combined with one of the upcoming division 3 points meet. Norwalk has a very packed schedule.

Well they already have to finish Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street and Top Sportsman from the May Norwalk Div. at the Indy Div. on July 5th.
Looks like things are going to get busy if the rain ever lets up for more than a couple of days this year. |

The Alcohol pits are on the Pro side of the track which is completely paved; and there is plenty of room there to pit the Factory Stock cars.
