Given the current tech inspection process, I assume the tech guy checked the chassis sticker in the staging lanes prior to round 1. Not sure how else something like this would be discovered.

I've seen them checking in the staging lanes, but always wondered if they ever found something, and wondered what would happen.

I have not witnessed that however, I have witnessed a helmet check in the lanes and the tech staff walking around with at least 2 helmets that did not meet the tech requirements.
The racers were also sent back to the pits.
That was last year and I do not recall if it was in time trials or eliminations.
I have witnessed the seat belt check for dates at several races since the no tech at the National events began.

I think there was a guy in SC that got sent back to their pits to replace the seat belts at the Dallas National last year. This was before the first time run.

I have been checked at national meets in the staging lanes. At Virginia after the 3rd qualifying run I was stopped on the return road to check helmets.

At the Va National I was checked after getting my time slip after the 3rd time run. They checked belts helmet and chassis cert.
