If you install a roll-bar or -cage, and if you're running any stock class "M" or above you're required to do so, you can remove the rear seat. You have to carpet the area where the seat was installed to finish the installation.

As David mentioned, modifying the inner wheel-wells with a "mini-tub" is prohibited, although you may be able to gently "massage" certain areas to get enough clearance.

You shouldn`t need to mini tub much anyway. You`re only allowed a 9" wide slick.

Thanks guys, I bought an 68 Camaro ex stock eliminator car with no motor. I have pictures of the car running in Stock. My car is mini tubed and has no back seat but it's all finished off with carpet. It ran in IHRA G/CM. We have installed a small block 400 in the car to get some seat time with the car first. Our goal is to race Stock. All input would be appreciated.

If you run in a class lower than M and don't need a roll bar but you run a fuel cell and need a fire wall do you still need a back seat?

The IHRA allows mini tubs. The NHRA doesn't.

Basically, yes, without a roll-bar or -cage you still need to have your rear seat in place.. The bulkhead that the rear cushion attaches to normally serves as the fire-proof barrier for a fuel cell installed in the trunk. The seat itself doesn't effect that function.

Thanks Lew. I did put a firewall in when I changed to a fuel cell in the 66. If I need to I can still get the back seat in.
