Im building a FED for bracket. Will have 526 hemi in it. I am looking into building a oil pan with side kickout. On bbc its worth 20 plus hp according to some very creditable folks.
Have been told does nothing on hemi becuse of it being skirted block. I can see the logic these opions are based on,but they are just that opions of folks who have not run hemi engine. A friend suggested talking to some super stock racer ad get their input,so giv me some input.Even if negative input is welcomed. Chris |

You are ALWAYS better off by keeping the oil as far away from the crank as possible.
If you "kick out" the pan such that with 5 Qts. in the pan (as an example) the oil is 1/2" further away from the crank, you will: 1) make more power (a few HP) 2) have lower oil temperatures 3) have less air (aeration) in the oil the enters the oil pump. |

Just read an article about crankcase oil management. The writer told a story about a Mopar clinic he went to in the 70's which was hosted by Tom Hoover, Dave Koffel, and Dick Maxwell. The writer said that's all Hoover, Koffel, and Maxwell talked about was windage. The writer said to use the deepest oil pan with a kick out you can fit in the car, along with using a crank scraper and the new Milodon Diamond Stripper windage tray. The article stressed that a lot of power is to be had reducing the oil hitting the crank. He also said you want to try to have the engine oil dump back into the pan in the front or the back of the engine not dumping in the center where it will fall directly onto the path of the crank.
