I got a buddy that is wanting to convert his Maverick into a stocker... The problem is he has a column shift automatic....He does not want to put the shifter in the floor..He is having trouble finding a set of headers to fit a column shift...Any suggestions or anyone have any that will fit his car........He is not a member on here ,but visits very often.. Any help would be appreciated ....Also are roller rockers legal in NHRA? I know they are in IHRA.....Thanks in advance for any help....

Roller rockers are legal. As for headers, Doug's and Dynomax claim to, Hookers are a maybe, but Hedmans will not.

Danny, I did it on a 71 Maverick I had a few years ago. I think the headers where Headman and if I remember correctly all I did was cut the shift leakage that go's from the column to the trans an and repositions ( I may of reversed the two ends) then weld it back together. It worked great I sold the car some years go and saw it at a car show and he still had the column shifter in it. Just put the engine with headers in the car and take a look you see not much to it.

We run a 1972 Maverick with a 240hp crate motor in L/CM. The headers we run are sold in Jegs by a company called patriot they have 1.5" primary and 2.5" collector and are Tri y design. They are listed for a 64-70 Mustang but they fit good in a Maverick. We did not believe the tiny primary and collector until we ran them. Part# in Jegs is 737-H8426. I wish I would have tried them on my 302 2V natural combo.

Here is a list of most header manufactures that fit a 302 Maverick. This came from the Maverick web site. The list is from 2009 so some of them may be discontinued. The person who put it together did a lot of work and it's handy to see the tube and collector sizes, part numbers,no guessing.
http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.ph...hlight=headers Your friend might take a look at the site overall, lot's of drag racers on there (mostly bracket guys), good Maverick info. Good Luck, Kelly |
