12 bolt gears in a 9"?
I've seen the Strange drop out carrier, and recently noticed that MW had special spools for a 9" carrier to take a 12 bolt gear, although I couldn't currently find their listing for the offset pinion carrier needed to go with it. Would either of these be legal in a stocker?

I would think that would fall under "no crossbreeding of parts" reference that's in the NHRA and IHRA rule books.

Jim, I do understand your logic there, but then again it really isn't any different than some of those low ratio planetaries which are often parts from a different brand trans. The only mention of crossbreeding is in the engine section. Hoping someone says they have run this stuff or can say that NHRA told them no.

My thoughts are its probably not allowed based on what went down with the Mopar guys where the old cars could not run the aluminum center section.

No aluminum cases allowed in Stock regardless of what gears are attached so that kills it right there.

Re: 12 bolt gears in a 9"?
How about the guy who puts a third member together for a Drag Pack with this stuff? It's already aluminum, which eliminates it from consideration in an older car,but I always interpreted the "no crossbreeding of parts"rule to mean engine parts. Let's face it, in Stock Eliminator today, rear ends, transmissions and converters are way more exotic than ever. Also the 3 speeds in the earlier cars is a further refinement that is another departure from the OEM configuration. I bet the 12 bolt gear set would be good for something of an ET reduction in a Drag Pack.

I may just call Mark Williams and see if that offset pinion carrier is still available. I like it over the Strange deal for a few reasons: 1. It's very stealthy 2. Could be used with things like a through bolt carrier for more rigidity 3. If the 12 bolt gear deal doesn't work out, you still have a carrier you can just put a 9" gear into |
