Has anyone changed to Kirkey seats and How did you put them in ?

That's a good question. Maybe someone could also post what's the most popular or comfortable style of Kirkey seat.

I have. Long story, short. I took my very worn stock seats out at the end of last season and was going to have them recovered. The rule change came about, so hey this will be cheaper than recovering my original seats. Bought a seat for me and one for my wife, and the brackets too. I ended up with 2x3 aluminum square tubing to mount to the factory studs in the floor, and then used the Kirkey seat brackets for a template to make several locating holes for adjustment. After all of that fun, I then welded tabs to the back brace to support the seats. I also fabricated brackets for the seats to the tabs. The weight savings was only 30# total for both seats and the material for mounting them. This project was not cheaper than recovering the original seats. They are more comfortable, and probably safer than the originals. Hope that helps. BTW, I ordered the seats, covers, and brackets from Summit when they were having a free shipping special, so that reduced the pricing compared to others. They are the Pro Street version. They are comfortable, make sure you follow the instructions for measuring so you get the right width. Do not get too small of a seat.

Ken, I used the 41 series pro street drag. Here is the link to a thread that talks about what I did. obviously I have to put another one in because of the new rule. Driver and passenger has to be identical.
I used the Kirkey brackets to install, but you can fab them yourself. Simple bolt in really and I find them to be very comfortable. I bolted the bracket to the floor, then the seat to the brackets. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...542#post356542 |

I also have the 41 series Kirkey Seats. While its a very nice seat, I found that there was too much padding underneath my knees/back of thighs. With my feet on the pedals it was actually pushing into the back of my knees and was not a natural nor comfortable feeling while sitting in the car. I unbuttoned the cloth seat cover, which has the foam glued to it, and you can see the foam is darn near 4" thick in that area.... I trimmed about 1.5" of foam off of it, and it is a great fit for me now.
Anyway, your fit may be different, so you may not have this issue.. I am short at 5'7", so I think that is a factor, as longer legs would put a 'bend' in your knee and probably be ok as is with the seat as it comes from Kirkey Kevin |

I put the Pro Street Drag Racing 41 series in my Olds and am very happy with them. I did a bit of searching for seat brackets and used some really nice laser cut aluminum ones from S&W race cars. The brackets that Kirkey sells put the seat only a couple of inches of the floor, fine for a tube chassis car, but no good for a Stocker. The S&W brackets have quite a few sets of holes and allow lifting the seat off the floor up to 6", if desired. Their about $50 a pair and come with grade 8 hardware.
