I am looking into possibly getting into doing some stock eliminator racing in the future, and I wanted to hear some opinions on combinations. I'm on a budget, so I'm thinking of starting out in the lower classes, and I was wondering what some of the better, cost effective combos are. I want to stay with Mopar, so I know that will limit some of the cost effectiveness a bit. I have footbrake bracket raced a while so I know that side of the game, I'm just looking to possibly put a second car together in order to get into something a little different, thanks for the advice.

Best thing to do is go to a div or national event and walk the pis and talk to some of the racers. It will give you some real insight.

I will do that, but probably not for a while, until the season gets started down here in Florida again. The more I research this, it seems like the best thing to do, is just buy someone elses car when they get out, becuase it seems like finding the right combo is very difficult. wish I knew someone who raced stock so I could talk to them and pick their brain about what the best direction to start in is, but sadly I don't. I guess I will just have to wait until I run into someone at the track. If anyone else has any further advice it would be much appreciated.

If you want to go mopar there are a lot of good reasonably cost effective choices.
Almost any of the trucks, 318 1977-80 volare / aspen and 318 or 360 1980 - 83 mirada cordoba. Those all can run well on a budget. |

NHRA Division 2 will be having a National Open at Gainesville Raceway the end of next week and there should be an opportunity to see a very good group of Mopar stock class cars and drivers in attendance. Here's the link -

I live in Jacksonville and have a stocker and my father is putting his Super Stocker back together. The question I have for you is do you have a ET desire? If you don't mind footbraking a slower 13-15sec car then there are many options with a more resonable budget. For example Michael Beard had a Front Wheel Drive Omni for sale that was a competetive car and he proved you can win with it. The second one is here in florida. It is a dodge dakota with "Pace Bros" on the door it runs T/SA with a V-6 in it. I saw it again at the Summit Divisional race in Valdosta. I saw a For Sale sign on it before. I believe that you can run a V-8 combo in the same truck. Plus there is some inherited advantages and disadvantages. The Second is obvious but trucks are all allowed to have, I believe, a .430" lift cam in it no matter what came from the factory for that combo. Just some things to think about.

It's good to hear that someone wants to get into Stock or SuperStock, especially with a Mopar!
Being on a budget and jumping into Stock Eliminator is like oil & vinegar - they don't mix but funding or lack of funding never stopped the rest of us! When spending that hard earned money don't be too quick to shy away from something that you might want to take the less expensive path with. When you go back at a later date and go the direction you should have gone in the first place you will have spent just that much more money. There is a lot of good advice being provided here. Good luck with your project. Once you get some ideas and recommendations send me a PM and I will be happy to jump in. A number of years ago a very good racer I know decided to get into Stock Eliminator. After two years in Stock he said that he learned more than in 10 years of bracket racing. Thanks for the advice everyone, I really don't have an ET desire, I already have a 10.00 big block Dart (hence the name) that im going to keep and continue to race, even if/when I do get into stock. The Dakota pickup route interests me, becuase they are easy to find cheap for a starting point, if anyone knows any more about running one in stock, let me know, thanks.
