I've been telling the old man it looks like he stages the car deep and it bit him in the *** first round this weekend when the car lurched forward when he set the t.b turning off the top bulbs. Could this be a issue of too low of a idle not creating enough pump pressure?

That is also a symptom of a Powerglide pump that is wearing out.
The Reid Racing powerglide pump cures this and you'll never have the problem again. |

If it lurches forward it isn't the band. It is most likely related to reverse not engaging tight enough or soon enough. Check your pump pressure. Also it could be worn out reverse clutches.
