Default Strange Master Cylinder Plumbing

What is the best way to connect 1/4'' hard tubing (7/16'' 20 IF fitting) to a Strange master cylinder (1/2'' 20 IF fitting). I upgraded to a Strange master cylinder and I want to connect the 1/4'' stock rear brake hard tubing directly to the master cylinder, but I can't seem to locate the proper fitting. I have called Strange's and Summit's Tech. Support , but they have no solutions. I found a fitting at AutoZone and Napa, but the 1/2'' 20 IF part of the fitting doesn't seem long enough to get a proper seal with the master cylinder.

Here's a heads-up that should help as I did this about 1-1/2 yr. ago. If you are switching from a GM to a Strange Master Cylinder, you will first need to plum in a residual pressure valve on each port, which type depending upon if you are using disc or drum brakes. Strange sells these as well. The Strange master cylinder does not have this feature built-in like the stock GM master. I ran a 8" length of 3/16" brake line from the master to each valve as I was told to locate the valves as close as possible to the master by Strange. The residual pressure valves have 1/8" NPT ports and come with 1/8" NPT to 3/16" I.F. adapters.

Jim,

Will I need the residual pressure valve if I have converted all my brakes to Strange disk brakes?

Yes, you'll need the Strange B3366, Wilwood 260-1864 or 260-3278. Any of those will work. They are all 2 lb. valves, recommended for use with disc brakes and prevent piston retraction for a firmer pedal with less travel. The Wilwood 260-3278 comes with fittings.

I don't have access to all the information I need right now, but I did something similar, I don't recall all the sizes. I used a some -3 braided steel line and some adapters from Earl's that converted the automotive double flared tubing to -3.

If you need more information let me know and I'll try to dig it up.

do any of the aftermarket master cylinders have the residual pressure valve built in?

If you're looking for inverted flare adaptors, NAPA is a distributor for Weatherhead fittings. Weatherhead makes various combinations such as 1/2-20 to 7/16-24 (part #7829) and so on. These could make your installation a lot easier and cleaner depending upon what you need to connect to the new master cylinder. (Ref. for S.A.E. inverted flare, 1/2-20 is for 5/16" tubing, 7/16-24 is for 1/4" and 3/8-24 is for 3/16".)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I found the correct length 1/2''-20 to 7/16''-24 at a local shop (King Bolt). I am going to get everything back together and if the pedal is too squishy then I'll add the residual values.
