Default stock GM front disc brake spring kit

My latest project is a 73 GM A body with the stock front disc brakes.Ive heard there is a spring kit that you can put in the caliper to take some of the drag off of the rotors.Anyone know who has these? thanks

Lyn: I've heard of some people using clutch drum return springs from an auto trans. You would just need to find some that are the correct height to fit into the caliper.

Check Raybestos, they have a spring for some applications...

Die springs work well. You have to do a minor mod to the pads. If we both end up at Joliet I'll show you what I mean.

Tom,
The springs go in between the pads on the guide pins.
I ran `69 Camaro in the `70s with Factory disc before converting to drum fronts,I used the preload springs from a 12 bolt posi unit with a 7/16 washer on each end of the spring.
You do need to keep an eye on pad wear and change them if they get close to coil binding the springs.
I ran a full season with that set up and never had a problem.

I found some springs at the local hardware store that had a spring assortment. Used ones that fit the guide pin close, just enough tension to let the rotors turn freely.

Good point..Too much spring, not enough pedal (on the first pump)
