i am researching for a 302 chevy rotating assembly. not to many offer the thee inch stoke ----i don't want to use junk. i'll be buzzing it at the high end of the RPM range. i will use a legal dart block -bowtie heads -3000lb car- modified ss class. Your advise would be appreciated.

By the time you find a good G.M crank and do the machine work it will cost alot and you still have a factory crank...sounds like you're building a nice motor you might as well get a lightweight Cola or Crower...maybe a Winberg...just depend on how deep your pockets are!!...Luke SS 311

Might want to see if Callies has one for you. They make a 3" stroke version in the Magnum and Magnum XL versions, and they are VERY nice crankshafts.

I have used stock 283 cranks on the end of 10,000 rpm and never hurt one. Am using one now in a 700 hp dart buick and has stayed in there 3 years. After market cranks, which i own too, are stronger and lighter, but never really ran quicker with them. Just saying, I'm not afraid of a chevy forging.

i have a lot of 283 stuff and would use them but i like the dart block features-the journal size is the issue.

We used to run a 69 Camaro in SSBS. The engine was a 316that we bought from the Otis Bros.We ran a 4 speed Jerico. It had the original 302 Crank from his 68 camaro in it. It had the rod journals cut to small journal and was hard chromed. We never ever had a bad looking bearing come out of it.
The Otis Bros were running comp with the billet cranks at the time. They said they wished the bearings looked as good as the old chrome crank. I know it is harder to find these cranks now, but Dwight knows a thing or two about them.

We just run spacer bearings. Almost all small cube motors Al Parker does for us has small small and use large journal block. I also cut, and destroked small 283 to honda journal and so far, so good. Not saying after market isn't better, but I personally think they are strong enough to take it. After 40 years, have yet to blame the crank for engine failure. One time we hurt an engine bad, and called Al to tell him. he said, "I''l bet that turned down crank failed" I thought it did, but a rod broke and the crank was beat up bad, but never offered to break. I won't name the rod company, because I have never before or since had a rod failure. But we all know, strange things happen at 10,000.
