I've been reading this forum for sometime now and finally I've decided to jump in with both feet and convert my 1965 Mustang coupe bracket car into a real race car.
It's easy to see that there's alot of really innovative, intelligent and experienced racers here.I've already learned quite a bit and I'm sure you guys can keep me pointed in the right direction as I work through this project. My first question relates to rear frame rail height. Can the frame protrude through the floor in the trunk area?I know the rule book says it can't be higher than the stock flooring.Does this mean it has to be under the floor? If anyone is willing to post pictures of what they have done, it would help me decide what approach to take. The last thing I want to do is build the car and get a thumbs down in tech. Thanks in advance for your help and it's good to be here. Mark |

i believe the book reads that the bottom of the new rail cannot be higher than the original floor. i'll check the book later for you.

Mark, reading the rule book alone will NOT answer your question, it depends on which section you read and how you interpret it. There seem to be a big difference in the interpretation depending on if you're doing a FWD conversion or as it appears your choice a rear wheel drive car. There are less things "allowed" for the rear wheel drive cars than the FWD conversion cars.... at least from my interpretation. Opinions may vary, however never hurts to call your Div. Director. Joe

Mark,, there are a few early Mustang S/S cars out there,,,including Alex's if hes looking in on here, that you should take a look at and talk to their owners to help you solve your problem.

Thanks for the replies.I'll do some more research and then contact my tech director. My car was a backhalf deal done in the early eighties.Alot has changed since then. Once I get the frame rail height figured out we'll move on to the roll cage.
