Default Charlotte shortcut ?

Has anyone towed a trailer from Roanoke VA to Charlotte NC via:

US220
NC68
US158
US311?

If so, can you advise for or against it?

Thanks

Not the way I would go.... Two options in my opinion...

US 220 to NC 68 to I 85 to Charlotte

I 81 South to I 77 South to Charlotte

I would go the I 81 and I 77 route myself..... JMO

take i-81 to i-77 south unless you are worried about scales (around mm 106 in nc). the route you quoted has too many small towns, traffic (school busses), lower speed limits. from roanoke to zmax should be less than 3 hours doing the posted speed limit. only short cut would be to take exit 18 off i-77 and go east (harris blvd) - you would save a few miles going into charlotte and then back north on i-85 (depending upon the time of day you could save 15 to 30 minutes. andy b.

Dont go that way, I killed the brakes on my truck going that way a few years ago, I81 to 77 is the only way, and buy gas in Wytheville, cheapest gas you will probably find on your trip. And dont hit Charlotte early AM going south on 77, after 9am you will be ok.

Greg,
The I-81 and I-77S is the best way if the weather is good. I-77 has a section on Fancy Gap mountain that is a killer in bad weather. I would guess six or seven deaths in the last few months. Even if the weather is clear the wind can be very rough.
good luck, Roland
