Default ? About Wheel Spacers

What is the maximum acceptable (for safety) thickness and material for drive wheel spacers in your opinion or experience?

My application is a street/strip 68 camaro, has 8 inch weld wheels, 12 bolt rear with studs. Engine is roughly 400 hp sbc, glide, 4.10 gears. I have a slight tire rub in the innermost part of the factory wheelhouse, only rubs when going over bumps.

Any advice and info is appreciated.

I run a 3/4 in spacer on a 15x12 Weld Alumastar with no problem. make sure you get the billet spacer not the cheap junk spacer. Ed

The issue I see, is a lot of times the billet is thicker than the racer wants, and five times more expensive...

Billet is the only way to go. The second most important issue is to make sure that the shoulder style lug nut is used. The thicker the spacer the more torsional flex that will be induced into the wheel studs.

We sometimes run 5/16 cast spacers. If you want to run 3/4 spacers you better have 5/8 studs. Make sure if the tire does rub it hits a flat surface, not a sharp edge....Thanx Trevor.
