Default fwd cobalt stocker

I am thinking of building a 2008 cobalt 2.2 auto. for stock classes. Does anybody on this fourm run one? I ran the car in all oem trim best et 16.30@ 84.20 with k&n filter in stock air filter housing and some tuning ( by myself ) with hp tuner software went 15.89 @ 86.87 ! Ran out of testing time as the tracks in the northeast are all closed for winter. What do you guys think.

Well it's a Natural D/FS with an index of 15.60 needs to weigh 2830 with you in the car so??? Ya might just get their. you "could " add weight to make it an E/FS but would need to weigh 3670 with you in it! 17.65 index though

1320 / MPH = optimum ET.
Using your numbers, if you had slicks / suspension / convertor sorted out for drag racing (not street / strip) and without lifting the hood, you should be capable of running 15.20's or .400 under the index. Keep in mind slicks may be a lower profile than your street tires (you still are on street tires, right?) which will not only aide in traction but will give you a lower gear ratio. That right there could get you in the 14's.
This is the exact path I had with my street '87 Dodge Dayton Shelby Z (2.2L inter-cooled turbo). It had a MP computer and a cat-back. It ran 15.40's with Radial T/A street tires and poor traction. I was already about .400 under. I added slicks and tuned the waste gate and boost, an open exhaust and air filter, advanced timing, race gas and Koni shocks with M/T slicks was good enough tho set the B/FS record @ 14.17 without ever having the valve cover off the 75,000 mile engine.
I then rebuilt & blueprinted the engine with gapless rings and refined the a/f mixture and set the A/FS record at 13.26.
I say you go for it and I hope you can dedicate your energy into it for a lot of fun. Ideally it's not your driver (like mine was).

My son had a 4dr model. We did absolutely nothing to it and it ran within1/2 seccond of the index. We were gonna tinker with it until he decided his front bumper looked better on the back of a mini-van.

My wife had one a few years ago as well, and it ran similar to Chip's kid's. Ran it across the scales, and it was over 3000#. I've called this one out as a sleeper Stock combination a couple of times! Git 'er done.

Thanks for all the help and support gentlemen. Jeff , yes that was on stock street tires 195x60x15. What do you think of trying drag radials instead of slicks? also see IHRA has fwd auto.classes I think it will fall in the EF/SA index 15.90 or FF/SA index 16.30. I got a dc sport 4 into1 header and a cat.less downpipe on the way. What about fuel what do you guys think i shoud run. Thanks for all the help.

You need a low profile drive tire that will hook. You have to use race gas that is approved as street fuel will not pass tech.
I wouldn't worry much about the engine for now. Get a good convertor, better gears (if available) and stiff front shocks for better traction. Low powered cars really benefit from light wheels and tires.
Always pay attention to your MPH. That is your own personal dyno. ET is relative to MPH.

VP C-10 is unleaded & 98 motor octane. It should do fine.

Jeff on the tires there is a problem m/t doesn't make the 20" tall tires anymore.
Another thing is to stiffen the rear suspension as much as possible weight transfer is your enemy.

Thanks for all the info.guys,Greg checked out C-10 race fuel from what I see it should work just fine Thanks. Talking about fuel, how do IHRA and NHRA do fuel checks ? do I need to have a way to get fuel from the fuel rail? If so what do I need.Any other help anybody has will greatly be appraceated. Thanks again looking forward to running stock classes and having some fun.
