I read this article on drag racing online. For a guy who claims to be a hardcore drag racing fan I think he dosen't know his *** from a hole in the ground. He thinks us lowley sportsman racers should run somewhere else, and has no idea what the classes even are. I think he needs some feedback on this article.

He clearly doesn't understand that sportsman cars get screwed time and again, that all we do is fill the gaps between fuel car turnarounds. If they could have run the fuelers faster, they would and have run the sportsman on Monday...
Darr is smarter than that.

I read the article and thought he was pretty "right on" as far as his summation of the debacle----With a race track that is under an extremely tight curfew to try and race as many cars as possible in every category known to man is just plan foolish!!! When ya factor in oildowns and vehicle accidents as well as normal breakage there just is not enough hours in a day to accomplish everything no matter how well the intentions. In the future I am willing to bet that
A) the quotas will be greatly diminished in the Super categories(SS excluded) B) the Super categories for the most part will be contested at another venue or much earlier in the event with only the final 2 or 4 cars racing on Sunday C) the Super catagories will be eliminated at Pomona altogether!!! The authors interpretation of his experience compared to his reminicing about previous races at Pomona are trying to convey to the reader how much it has changed and the anticipation of excitement and waiting for the race to unfold has been lost in the oil downs and endless throttle stop racing which he as well as many others sitting around him found very boring. He then goes on to say that the Cacklefest and exhibition of "antique racecars" he found much more interesting than the actual racing activities that were going on at that time. He goes on to say that for the betterment of the sport many things will have to change. The Status Quo is not providing the entertainment that he and others came to see. He further goes on to critique Tom Compton for not being either visible enough to the reporters and unlike the Heads of other racing organizations like Nascar he needs to give a State of The NHRA to address the shortcomings as well as his ideas to better the NHRA in the future. Basically not a poorly written article hopefully the suits at NHRA will take heed. I actually agree with him a lot. Comp 387 |

Pomona is a four day event, with only one pro qualifying session on each of Thursday and Friday. They run all the large volume rounds of the sportsman classes on those days. And still run out of things to keep the fans busy. Maybe they saved too many rounds for Sunday, but that doesn't mean they need to run them somewhere else. There's more than enough time at a Pomona event to run everybody who shows up.

I understand that race was a mess, and he did take some shots at Glendora. But to confuse stock and super stock with the local bracket program? With the money you have to fork out to run one of thers events, and to say the sportsman should run somewhere else is ridiculous.

he wasn't confused, you are, he was referring to the bracket world finals not stock or SS.

Read it again. He says local ET bracket program. If he meant the racers that won there ET Finals and got to race for the National Championships then way to go on showing them some respect too.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but "all those Bracket cars?"
Four classes: Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Motorcycle. Seven cars per class. 24 TOTAL pairs. Probably 20 TOTAL minutes of dragstrip time. And in a class like Super Pro, the champion had to win ELEVEN straight rounds, starting with the Division Finals, in order to win the Wally. IMO - each Bracket Finals Champion is at least, if not more, impressive than any other victor at Pomona.
