I'm getting ready to build a 427 small block Chevy. I'm ordering the short block from Nyes Automotive in Indiana. It's a Dart Little M block, 6" Eagle H Beam Rods, Eagle forged crank, & JE forged flat top pistons. It will be about 10.35:1 compression.
I am planning on running AFR Eliminator 220cc heads. I am looking for suggesstions on solid roller cam specs, and intake/carb suggestions, along with convertor suggestions. The engine will be going in a 69 Camaro that weighs about 3325lbs with me in it. It has a Strange S-60 (Dana 60) with 3.73s, and a TH350. I run the Calvert springs/Caltracks, Calvert shocks up front. The car is licensed and insured, but will not be driven on the street very much (probably less than 200 miles/yr) I'm looking to turn something in the 10.50-10.60 range on the engine. I have a N20 kit that I can use to spray it a little, but it will not see more than a 150hp shot. I'm hoping this could get me into the high 9s occassionally. Any help/suggesstions would be greatly appreciated, I plan on getting the ball rolling Monday. |

If it's not going to be driven much you need to put more gear in.

Yes, more gear is going to come, likely a 4.10 - forgot to mention that.
Really looking for help on the cam spec selection, converter selection and intake/carb help. |

More likely than not AFR will have all the components to "match" the cylinder head package that you have. ![]() Greg is correct the gear should be a consideration. |

Decide on your camshaft and gear ratio ASAP.
You will not get a firm recommendation until you decide those pieces. You're going to get multiple OPINIONS and get frustrated. Figure out what you're going to do with the car the most. I bracket race mine now, but it was a street/strip car just about 4 years ago. I suggest you call Comp Cams, and then I suggest you call 2-3 converter companies....A-1, UCC and ATI. Converter company will not give you a recommendation until you have the cam card specs. The camshaft and gear ratio affects how much stall speed you will get. Regarding gear, if you are going to run anything taller than a 28" tire I would recommend 4.56+ gears. You can EASILY drive it on the street to show shines, GoodGuys, etc. Clark |

So here's what I'm looking at: Dart Little M block, 4.125 bore with a 4.00 stroke, 427 cu inch. I'll have a Eagle forged crank & 6" H Beam rods, will be about 10.35:1 compression w/ thje forged JE Pistons. The short block assembly was ordered today.
I am llok at going with the AFR 220cc heads, a Super Victor intake, and 950cfm QuickFuel carb. As for the cam, I'm looking at a Erson solid roller - something at about 270-280 duration at .050, .670 lift and a 112 lobe center. Any thoughts or suggestions on this combo would be much appreciated. The cam, card & intake are all that is undecided at this point, but I need to decide on a cam very soon. Thank you for reading |

Seems a little light on the compression,,,unless, of course you've wanted to build a pump gas engine. I've been looking into a similar combination also, but I'd be going with at least a 13:1 compression ratio and race gas. My car won't be street driven,,,maybe yours will.

Call Comp Cams....they will give you a cam spec to use and then you can buy it when you're ready.

I'd say 5.13 gears and the wildest cam known to mankind, but that's just me. I don't think it will fit in stock class...
