Currently I have a stock or freshened up 727 trans.
I have looked into the $$ high dollar $$ transmissions, what is it all worth. How much is there to really gain in a lightweight pro trans. Do I really need to spend $7k on the set up The trans will be sitting behind a 440 cuda 4bbl. Also while we are at it, who's converter would be the best to start with? |

The difference between a ProTrans and a beefed up stock heavy 727 is a bunch. Whether or not it is where you need to spend your money right now is another matter. If your engine program isn't maxed out, and/or the rest of the car is not up to par, you may gain more spending that money somewhere else. It's hard to say without knowing a lot more about your program.
I prefer ATI converters, but that's just my opinion.

If your just bracket racing you dont have to have a highly modified Trans, To answer your question what is it worth, I put my stocker 727(built by my shop APT) in place of a bracket race 727 also built by my shop and went 3 tenths faster and about 2.5 mph. Thats about 1$ per tenth. If you want the best converter for the money get the ATI.

Alan is correct, your engine program should be your first priorty once that is done look to the trick trans stuff and don't forget your suspension so all that power can get to the ground.
TurboAction has always worked worked with Mopar on convertors and trans. and Paul is a good guy. JimR

I have wondered what a Pro Trans 350 Turbo would be worth, if anything, versus my Rossler T350. It has an aluminium drum and stock gear set. Hard to cough up 6 grand for a couple hundredths if your trying to retire.

Pro Trans If you get a good on, It might be worth it. If you don't. Your life can be hell _-_-_- very expensive hell!!!. You can spend lots to correct problems that in the long run no one wants to hear about. I learned the hard way.
You want a good trans? Call A& A. Rick is a man of his word. He will take the time and effort to make sure you are a happy customer. If you want a pro tans------- call me Maybe you can make it do what no one else could.

I guess everybody has different experiences. ALL our five stocker / 2 Super Stocker/ 4 Bracket cars have pro trans and have never put one in not working perfectly. When its time for a rebuild, which is usually Several hundred passes with my kids beating them to death.....just clutches and a band. My oldest boys H/SA picked up almost 3 tenths over a bracket transmission with a full pro deal. Our small blocks pick up over 2 tenths with everything. Irving Family Racing

John, I am glad for you. When I purchased mine it was delivered without all the options. I sent it back. When it came back again, No clean neutral in it. He had someone out here in the east attempt to correct that.
Now I think I am set. Car still S---L-----O--------W. Can't be tranny. So in search of almost everthing else in car. Replaced it all at least once. Had tranny taken apart after less than 45 passes ( total ). OH NO! Time to replace all the steels and Clutches. Call the vendor, Remind him of the past problems, Reply, Well looks like we really (guess the next word) that one up ! That was almost two years ago. The tranny is out on the floor with no provided sloutions on the part of the vendor. I just hope no one has the same problems as I. I just think when you spend that kind of money, help should have come forth with a solution or replacement.
