Default How did this cam change do this much ?

Car did come from Ala to Tx--But first car that made that move ran the same in Tx as Ala
Everything else the same SBC 383, stock 400 heads, glide, 8" PTC conv, 4:30 gears Weight 3550lbs with driver ----original cam
Comp .501/.501 292 RPM range 2500-6500 60ft 1:70,s 1/8mi E.T 7:70,s MPH 85
New cam--Jegs .488/.510 292/302 RPM range 3000--65000 60ft 1:78,s 1/8 mi 8:01 MPH 85

Best time to date with new cam 7:91 in cool weather Jacking up at starting line to 3K needed extra foot on brake pedal. Obviously I guess I need to go back to the Comp and see if I get my .3 back--But what happened Lower cyl pressure? Need more converter? Better heads?--are Jegs cams junk?

Looks like both cams had the same mph which is what I look at for horespower diff. I'd say they are pretty close in horsepower.

Mike, you have P.M.---Thanks
So Danny your saying go back to the Comp cam or keep the Jegs cam and loosen up the converter? Will they both produce the same results? Cheaper to change cams.
so this car is so heavy and underpowered Just that change killed my 60ft and E.T.?
Maybe I should go with a .480/.480 280/280 or a .490/.490 286/286 To get this thing a little harder out first 60--100ft.

If you want to go faster then the cam you have got now seems to me needs more converter to put you in the power range. You lost 60 ft ,but your cam range is higher on bottom end (2500 compared to3500) .If you put a looser converter in, it should pick your 60 ft up in turn you should have more et. Cam must be good to run same mph and worst 60ft. Just my opinion. I have gained a lot of et in just converter testing and still testing. A 283 may be more sensitive to converter playing than a larger cubic inch motor is. I had 3 tenths change in just converter swapping so far.

get rid of that jegs cam .comp cam 244@ .050 int and ex 110l/c jegs cam 234@ .050 int 244@ .050 int 112l/c. jegs cam rump rump street cam at best.try comp cam again. if youre ambitious do some bowl work on the stock heads yourself its not magic plenty of info out there to make it easy or just copy a set if you have acces to any already done well.as far as equal power i doubt it theres plenty of weak engines out there running mph but no et and ive seen plenty of motors pickup power on dyno and go 2 tenths quicker with zero speed increase power is acceleration not nescasarily speed .provided youre making good clean runs also.

Just a guess, but I'd say the Jeg's cam, while being "bigger" on paper, is a good bit less aggressive than the Comp. Either that, or the Jeg's cam has the wrong LSA or is installed on the wrong centerline.

What I'd suggest you do is try either a Comp Extreme series cam, or a Lunati VooDoo cam.
