Well like my dad said this morning at about 2:30 am while working on the DP when we ran into something that cannot be corrected in time for Pomona, even with Mack Reeves gracious loan of DP #43 motor.
"There are a lot of people who will be happy, and there are a lot of people who will be dissapointed, unfortunatley its the ones we want to be happy (the people rooting for us) who will be dissapointed, and the ones we want to dissapoint who will be happy" Im bummed, but Ill live, it wont stop, I wont yell, I havent started foaming at the mouth (anymore than normal) I wont hang my head in shame and go away (that you should have learned by now), Ill be the same person I have for 38 years....and Ill keep going , plans are in place now tenativley for Gainesville, Orlando , the the Gatornats, and if a new motor comes through Maybe Bradeton, but the 2 before will give me a chance to grade up. Our driver will withdraw and the money will transfer to the Gatornats. He has agreed to drive that as well....some know who it is, and others well.....sshhhhhhhh its seceret Car is awaiting a new motor, loaner motor is on its way back as we speak to Florida. New motor may be 5.7 I am building "rushed up a bit" less some coatings, to be applied later......or a 6.1 I really wanted to run the 6.1 for 3 races first of the year (I had my reasons) But , for the only 2 people, me and my dad to know, we know its not for lack of trying or effort. We tried, and HE really tried with his health, I had to ask him on many occasions, Pop are you sure......"Hell YES" was his answer, he wore and always will me out. I need some sleep today....then well decide on tommorow, maybe well come out to Pomona, the only reason we wont is if something is going on with regards to getting us to the track, as in a motor coming , or finishing the 5.7.....otherwise well be there as spectators to enjoy the races as we always do, and even root a few we see as our biggest rivals in these cars, (eeehhhmmm Irv Johns ![]() My dad wanted to tell me to make sure to say thanks to all the well wishes and offers of help, he dosent post here much, maybe once or twice but he reads it, and he says thanks for all the support. Well be there, in some way, in a way it was a relief to me, Im pretty thorough in testing, bikes do that, and I was scared s***tless about taking an untested car to Pomona, but everyone else (who really know like chassis side and our driver, etc) have said youll be fine you left no stone unturned, and I have listened to them and had 'faith' but........well It wasnt my usual testing cycle. Some things are beyond a persons control, it dosent happen often but sometimes it does.....it USUALLY happens when you allow someone else to have that control, and in this case we did. Our Chassis, Top notch. Our Fuel System and electronics, Top notch. Our Trans, Top notch. Our Paint .... ehhhh adequate (I did it , it works good, looks fair ![]() Our Interior same. Plumbing same The Drag Pak, A1 The Headers, Top Notch The Converter, Top Notch The Driveshaft, The Brakes, The on and on....all the best....BUT, if 1 single item falls through, it all comes to a halt and thats our case. The blog will continue, and so will we..... Pomona is just out, I will continue to post an obnoxious and veracios amount, (trust me you may be fast on a car but I type in excess of 140wpm) Thank you, and I mean sincerly and thank you for all your offers of support and resources. What I think our detractors dont know , its very simple, the people in our corner, the people who have offered immesurable resources and time and money and facilities to SEE our sucess. Well, these are the same people, the ones who have offered to help that "Get It" Thank you very much, if you have ever talked to me in person you know I talk a lot but I cannot very well express my gratitude or thanks. It does not mean it has gone unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank you. (P.S. Does anyone have John Irvings Home or Business address ? I owe him dinner.........I dont think well run farther under index at Pomona than him, unless he "hits the tree" again, in which case, how long does it take to walk from Atlanta to Pomona ?) Cheers Chris |

Hey no one is happy to see you have a failure.....especially an engine problem.
I personally think it's great to have enthusiasm for the sport. Do like Ed says...... and in a reasonable time frame.... Racing is supposed to be fun.......not punishment.....

Youre right, but its one of 3 that hold a special meaning to me and the old man together. So its one off the list for this year, maybe, just maybe the season close will change places and that will become our swan song.
We will do just about anything , except hurting/alienating another person to accomplish a goal. We would never comprimise our charachter or be dishonest either. Beyond being a person true to ourselves ..... yeah pretty much anything, if putting KFC chicken grease in the engine was legal and made us fast.........well Cl. Sanders would be top on our list of potential sponsors. Its just one race but to us it is/was as symbol. To US should things allow however next years Winternationals will be even sweeter....for many reasons, so instead of a failure, it would seem to us to be one goal yet to achieve and a reason to continue, no matter what this season brings.............there will ALWAYS be the Winternationals next year. See yall at Gainesville.....(dono which one, but well the first the planets alisgn to allow) Cheers Chris |
