How do you guys set up the rear, and what mods have you done to be able to fit in a 30x9" tire?
My car is a GT so the plastic fenders needs to be there. I currently run M/T 28x9 on a 15x8 rim with 5.5 BS, using a 1/4" spacer, and thats a really tight fit. Want to try at least the 28" Hoosiers but theyre supposed to be both higher and wider than the M/T... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! /Joakim |

In front of the tire I remove as much as I could about an 1 1/2" at the bottom cut off excess than folded it at 90° back to the inner wheel well and welded. Did this about 9" up tapering to the stock radius of the wheel well at about the trim line. Did alot of cut out of material an hammering in some. Basicly did the same on the back side of the opening also. I think I have some picture of this if not I can take some this weekend. I have not been able to post pictures here but PM me and I can send some.

Joakim, keep in mind that the 9x28" M/T slicks are actually a bit less than 27 1/2" tall. On my 85 Mustang, I run the M/T 9x29 1/2" slicks on 15x8 Weld Draglites with 5 1/2" BS. Like Westcoast said, the front & rear wheel openings will need to be trimmed or folded over quite a bit for the height. On my 85, the inner rear wheel wells also needed a fair bit of hammer time to clear the sidewall bulges. I just bought a pair of 15x9 Draglites, also with 5 1/2" BS, but I haven`t mounted them yet. I have heard of some guys running a 15x10" rim with 6 1/2" BS, but I would imagine that they would require much more hammer bashing to the inside to clear. As for the GT plastic body skirts, I would imagine that some cutting would be required to clear the 29 1/2 or 30" tall tires, but the 28`s should easily clear.

I am finishing up the wheel openings on my 88 LX to fit a 29.5 M/T. I am using a 15 x 10 (6.5 BS) wheel. I had to open up the front area only, as the rear looks to have enough clearance. I don't have any ground effects to worry about, but it did take some time to get everything to look good. The inner wheel wells can be a pain to deal with after making the required cuts to open up the front area.
