I have a 1968 camaro that is slowly being built into a stocker as my budget allows. The car weighs 3320 with driver right now and is bracket raced running 10.teens. I am putting disk brakes on the front of the car and will eventually be upgrading to rear disks also. I was looking at the wilwood vented slotted cross drilled kit mainly because somewhere someone had told me i need the vented rotors as my car is too heavy for a solid rotor?
I have liked the Strange brakes for a while now and called them today and the rep said that their kit would work fine on my car and that the weight was not an issue. I was also told i can retain my stock master cyl until i upgrade to four wheel disks, also that i should not use the stock prop. valve that is in the car now and just put a adjustable one in, which i was planning. My question is how many guys are running the strange fronts with a camaro or nova stocker? any pros or cons? I would LOVE some lamb brakes or mark williams but the budget just does not allow it nor do i feel i need it. thanks for any replys, i appreciate it!! |

Strange makes great products and I've used their brakes in the past. I have MW now and I couldn't tell you if one was better than the other.
Follow the manufacturer's reccomendations and go have fun!

My `68 Firebird weighs 3600 lbs. in F/S,I have the Strange front brakes with the one peice rotors with no problems at all.Follow the instructions you get with the brakes and make sure you install the adjustable prop valve to limit the pressure to the front brakes.

Even if they were'nt some of the best brakes for the money, I'd still consider them because of the support that Strange shows the Sportsman racer. ....AND they are actually nice to you when you call them to order components!.....I've got em on the Stocker and the SG Vette and have never had any of the problems I experianced with 2 piece brake rotor setups..........Braking a rotor off a hat at nearly 160mph gets your attention real fast.....

Thanks for all the replys guys!!!
So i am set on the Strange brakes!! Will be ordering next week. So i will be removing the stock distribution block that the car has now and installing a new strange adjustable prop. Valve. All the lines will be flushed but will remain the same, as will the stock 68 camaro master cyl. (master was new three years ago) I will also be buying the brake pressure gauge that screws into the bleeder. I was told that would help in adjusting the prop valve. He said to set them between 550-650lbs. and they should be fine. Thanks again and if anyone has any recomendations or tips or anything to add to that please let me know!! thanks -Scott Hakucsa- |

Scott I know you cut Lamb out of this picture But you should call Roger and ask him why his brake packages cost more He is a great guy to talk to and he will explain why After talking to him make up your own mind Many have bought brakes by others only to call him and end up with Roger fixing the problems And I have his brakes on both cars so I know what he is about... This is how "good" they look if you have "big windows" in the wheels!
