Default Mopar SS/GT question

What would be the best class to run Duster in ? I know it fits SS/JA, but I know it could be a good bit lighter and faster obviously in GT trim. I'm not worried about the index, we just want it to have as quick an et as we can without building a SS Modified engine. Its pretty dang light. I know with me in it, I can get it to 2925 lbs.

I was thinking maybe GT/DA, but I dont quite understand the rules. I know the car is a natural SS/JA car, but in GT can I just take the rated HP and multiply it by a weight or does it have to fit a certain class ? I'm a tad confused.Any other ideas ? Would a 360 combo be a better deal than the 340 ? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks so much for any and all help.

440 or 383 engine combo. Check out how fast Steve Wann goes with a 383/A-Body.

Hood clearance would be a problem, and I love the small blocks and already have small block parts. Thanks though.

At least you can get help on this forum, instead of getting flamed on the Moparts forum. With a 340 or a 360 it is a natural GT/F so you can go up or down a class. You can run GT/E with a 340 or 360. With a 340, rated at 290hp. you would weigh 3070 w/driver. The replacement head is rated at 295hp and would weigh 3120. The 360, rated at 285hp, would weigh 3020 w/driver. For the 340 combo, I would use the 308 heads and, with the 360 I would run the replacement heads. The reason why I would use the replacement head on the 360, is because Jeff at Modern Cylinder. Heads, says the replacement heads dont like the 2.02 intake valve. The only other issue is the use of the AMC type rocker gear. I'm sure Jeff Lee could tell you what to use. Also the 360 is less finicky to weather changes. By the way, is this the car that Ronny Sox helped you build? If so, I would really like to see some pictures of it. Hope this helps you out.

This is the car that Ronnie and I were building for IHRA Top Stock, until the class kinda diminished. Gary Wisecarver built it as far as the cage and front and rear suspension work ( it is still a leaf spring car, but I think we'll make it work fine with the smaller tire ). Whenever its done, it will be red, white and blue and have Sox & Childress on the door......its just gonna be a while due to funds, or rather the lack of.....hehehe.

Thanks a bunch for the reply Alan, I appreciate it. We'll keep trying to accumulate parts and just wait and see how it turns out. Thanks again for your help.
