Default on the wheelie bar to long

i am a bracket and s/sst guy, and not to long ago i posted on here because i was having a big wheel stand problem. hiting the launch so hard that at one point i actually hit the bumper on my 79 camaro. that was enough for me. so i have installed new wheelie bars.

i got the 48 inch type they are only a few inches longer than the car. the motor now has 12 runs on it. on my first time shot back in may it had a 1.313 60 ft time.then after my wheel stand from hell, i just went out and ft brakes the car since i needed to get my licence. leaving from idle my 60 ft time was 1.320. yesterday was my first time with the wheelie bar. my 60 ft went to 1.352 but the part that has me worried is that the chaulk mark on the track was 6 ft long. i think that is to much wasted friction. but i don't know how to lessen the wheel stand without effecting the car.

in the other post of mine wheel limiters were an option, and now i'm thinking shock adjustment. i have the koni 90/10 and they are set on the lowest setting.

part of me thinks that maybe i should just deal with it. its normal maybe itc consitiotant. since i don';thave enough runs to really now. when i footbraked the car for the licence it went 9.61, in 1500 worst air (3300 d/a) it went 9.69 on alchol. ( i did lose 2 mph due to head wind i think 136 from 138)

any help sorting this?

Six feet is not long as all IMO to be on the bars. I bet some Stockers and S/S cars ride them close to the 60' mark, or at least set the front wheels down in that area.

Try to tune the front suspension so that it keeps loading of the bars to a minimum. I don't look at being on the bars as a frictional deal, rather if your on the bars too hard or too quickly, it can unload the back tires and spin when the front end comes up the highest on the bars. I experienced that myself first hand.

As you can see, mine was on the bars probably close to a car length, or 15' or so.

Carlos, I think you will get used to it and it won't bother you. When I had my 383" LT1 foot brake bracket engine in mine it often shifted in the air, well past 60'. I have VHT on the rear pan below my license tag, not paint. Best it went was 9.89, 9.90, 9.91, etc at 135/136. 1.32 60' was pretty average, it never set the front tires down by the 60' mark. Since your 60' was a little slower I'm thinking your front end was probably up higher at the 60' beam, and it was catching your car somewhere along rocker panel further back, which would make it look a couple hundredths slower in 60'. If your front tires are very far off the ground they don't break the 60' beam, your car will trip it further back. After you get used to it you will think it's a blast.

Good luck, Ed

If you do not limit the front end travel do so and that will limit the wheelie height and not load the bars as heavy. It is a balancing act to keep weight on the rear tires and momentum forward and not up.
My 2 Cents

So far all I have are front travel limiters. They do wonders for wheel stands. At Baytown Pete Peery thought it looked like I had mine so limited that part of my red light problems were caused by snatching the tires up out of the beams. I tried putting an inch more drop in the right front than the left. Seemd to help some. Finally bought a set of wheelie bars, but don't have them on yet. Probably won't need them in July at Memphis. Something else I'll have to learn to use.
