Default Re: Rim Screw Question

Will you be running tubeless, or using tubes in the slicks? How high will you be launching, RPMwise? On my bracket car, I am running slick screws, best of 1.29 60 foot, with 2 step low side at 62-6600 RPM. Have ran both Jerico DR4s (3.19 low), and currently a G101A (also 3.19 low), now running a RAM Billet 10"/Black Magic Defiant clutch, but also used McLeod Soft Loks for many years. I am currently using tubes, but mostly ran without tubes until last season. With tubes, I would absolutely run the screws, if the tire moves on the rim enough, it can rip the valve stem off the tube, which is NOT a good thing. On my old 85 Mustang, I ran the 9x29 1/2 3056ST M/T slicks, and did not use tubes, or screws, but that car only went a best of 1.36 60 foots, and mid to low 10s in the 1/4 mile. If you are expecting 1.25 60 foots, that should be well into the mid 9s, I would imagine, if it was me, I would be screwing the tires to the wheels. Huge difference in a mid 1.2 60 foot compared to mid 1.5s.
