Default Re: Passing of Warren Whitehead

Warren R. Whitehead, 76, of Gloucester, husband of Helen E. “Betty” (Currier) Whitehead, passed away unexpectedly, from complications due to surgery, with his loving family at his side, in Lahey Medical Center, Burlington, MA on the morning of Sunday, August 27, 2017.
Warren was born in Salem, MA, the son of the late Lawrence and Carolyn (Upton) Whitehead. He attended and graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1959. He received a football scholarship to Norwich University and finished his Associates at Babson University. While as a senior in high school he held the title for shotput as well as participating in field and track, weight lifting and wrestling. Warren served proudly in the United States Air Force for 6 years.
He worked for his dad when he ran Whitehead Buick in East Gloucester, until after his time in college and went on to Lawrence Leather in Peabody, Litton Industries/Royfax in Billerica, working as a branch manager, Pete’s Auto Repair in Gloucester and finally opening up Whitehead Motors and Used Car Dealership in 1979.
Antique cars were his passion and his business proved to also be his hobby. He and Betty wintered in Citrus Hills, Florida for many years and enjoyed power boating and golfing. Always on the go, he and Betty were very social people who held football parties on their deck at their home in Florida, because they loved getting together with their friends.
In Gloucester they could be found docked at Wingaersheek Beach on any given sunny, summer day. He was a member of the Elks and Amvets. A wonderful, funfilled, caring and loving man, he is going to be missed tremendously by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife Betty, with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage in September, his daughter Brenda Morris and her husband Wayne and their children Derek, Jared and Zachary of Gloucester; his son James Whitehead and his wife Christine and their children Timothy, Stephen and Erica of Peabody; a sister-in-law Cindy Nickerson and her husband Robert and their son Gregory of Beverly; brothers-in-law Lawrence Provost of NC and Rev. Ralph Parady of ME; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by sister Judith Provost, sister-in-law Janet Parady, father and mother-in-law James and Blanche Currier and Uncle Warren and Aunt Dorothy Upton.
His visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester on Thursday, August 31 from 5-8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home on Friday, September 1 at 10 am with his burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
