Alex, when you say Joe Gibbs 'qualifier' gear lube, are you referring to the 70-80 weight?

For what it's worth (and not very scientific), put your hand on the rearend housing after making a typical single qualifying run in the morning, it is barely warm and probably cools right down after returning to the pits. On the other hand, try the same test after hot lapping 3 or more runs, you'll burn your hand doing the same test. Even at that, I doubt that the temp is all that high. Pretty obvious that that a typical drag race rearend seldom gets up to a reasonable operating temp.
