Default Re: CCRA Roxboro April 6-7

For the first time in a couple of years, we were actually able to complete our 1st two races of the season on schedule so hopefully this is a good trend to follow this year. CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association rolled into Roxboro Motorsports Park this weekend for the first time in many years & from what I'm hearing from our racers, everyone enjoyed themselves!

Let's start by giving Roxboro Motorsports Park owners/employees a special THANK YOU for welcoming us to their facility & giving us 2 great days of racing. Saturday was a small challenge with the colder weather temps for overall everything went fairly well. Then Sunday started out with a huge bump in the road but track employees & racers pulled together to get everything going although it was later than scheduled.

To no surprise, CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racers came out swinging as we had 8 dead on runs for our Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash. Mr. Jr. Bryant, after taking a few years off, collected the first $100.00 of the weekend. He was dialed a 6.80 and ran a 6.8002 at 97.76 mph. We had 39 cars on the property but 4 cars had failures & were unable to make the first round call so we started with 35 entries. Mr. Donnie Moore Sr, 82 years young, came out on the losing side of a tough run first round. He was dialed a 6.17, had a .0581 RT, & ran a 6.1853 at 109.49 mph. He was awarded a $50.00 bill (in which he didn't like=superstitious) for the Victory Lane Golf Carts sponsored 1st Round Best Losing Package. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to Mr. Tim Barrett. This was the first time Mr. Tim & Mrs. Linda joined CCRA action but I think they enjoyed themselves & Mr. Tim even joined CCRA points so we'll definitely be seeing more of them in 2024. He was dialed a 7.03, had a .0780 RT & ran a 7.0560 at 93.42 mph. His yellow 69 wheel-standing Camaro was sure leaving beautiful this weekend. Mr. Tim was given a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ fuel for his losing efforts. The lone semi-finalist was 2023 Classic Gear Jammers Champion, Charlie Wisecarver. We want to welcome both Charlie & Chad to CCRA this year & also let them know we appreciate them coming on board for our Sportsmanship Award sponsor. Charlie took on Mr Lynwood Daughtry in the semis. It was coin toss at the hit but Charlie let him back by at the big end. Wisecarver was dialed a 6.24, had a .0409 RT, & ran a 6.2731 at 102.76 mph. Scotty Galyean, another name we hadn't heard since the old IHRA days took the bye run to the finals in his beautiful silver first generation Camaro. Both drivers missed the tree in the finals but coming out on top was Mr. Lynwood. He was dialed a 6.38, had a .1315 RT, & ran a 6.4924 at 93.54 mph to take the win. Scotty spun at the hit, had a .1058 RT, ran a 7.0650 at 93.30 mph on his 6.84 dial. For the first time ever in 2024, we have a Series Sponsor, GBM Land and Construction. Having this extra sponsorship will allow us some "wiggle room" on various situations & we used some of it for Saturday's race. Based on the amount of entries, we were supposed to pay $1600.00 for 1st Place but THANKS to GBM/Brodie Mckee, we paid Mr. Lynwood $2000.00! He also received a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Ignition, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of fuel courtesy of Fuel Factory. Scotty received his runner-up winnings as well as a $50.00 gift certificate to Portatree Timing Systems, a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Ignition, a $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of fuel courtesy of Fuel Factory.
Russell Ghent received the Dunn Logging Company sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award for his .0078 RT during round 2 of eliminations. Don Sweeting, fighting "new car blues" was awarded the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award. For the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter Award, neither winner (Raymond Roland) nor runner-up (Al Brister) of our final race in 2023 at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park were present so the bounty award was rolled over to Sunday's race. The Wisecarver Brothers sponsored Sportsmanship Award was given to Kevin Locklear. Kevin was beat by Scotty at 5 cars but then proceeded to help Scotty the next 2 rounds. The Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package went to Scotty Galyean for his round 1 win. He was dialed a 6.90, had a .0186 RT, & ran a 6.9018 at 94.80 mph. Just like riding a bike, Scotty hasn't forgotten everything during his hiatus. Doyle Evans was awarded the Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT" for his .2562 RT during round 2 of eliminations.
