Default Re: 1962 Mopar 383/343 HP 'Stocker'

Jim,

When the NHRA changed the Stock Class Rules for 1963,,,,,,
expanding the classes,,,,,,,,,,,

Some of the early-1963 'Top Runners' for B/SA (9.50 - 10.59 Wt/Hp)
were the 1961 Plymouth Fury 'Hardtop Coupe' cars.

With the 'heavy' Torque-Flite casing, the cars weighed in at #3579 lbs.
And the 'optional' 413/375 HP engine was a perfect fit (9.54 Wt/Hp)
for the B/SA Class.

With 10.0 - 1 compression, solid lifter camshaft, Closed-chamber cylinder heads with 2.08 Intake / 1.60 Exhaust, Dual-point distributor, (#1854817) Cast iron In-line Dual-carbed intake with twin Carter AFB's (400 CFM).

They could run 13.50's,,,,,,,,,,

In 1963, not too many racers were running the newer 1962 and 1963 Mopar cars in the B/SA Class.

Seems like in early-1963, there was a 'small abundance' of 1961 Plymouth Fury's floating around (2-year old car).
