I was the track photo guy at Milan in '66 and raced my parents Mustang once. The time slip was hand written. 16 something. Two barrel and a three speed stick 289 K/PS. Five cars in the class.
I agree that there is too much tech in most classes beyond Stock. I can't find it, but I like the idea of air or electric shift for 1-2 only. It would let me concentrate on driving off the line. Transbrake without a rev limit would make the launch a more driver thing. Use the TB to hold the car but not be able to just plant your foot and have the box set your rpm. Race by ear.
I replaced my MSD with a Pertronix box at 1/2 the price. It's smaller but has rev limits for burnout and launch as well as a high safety limit. It can regulate the voltage and frequency of the multispark signal and lets you set advance and start retard. Can't do any of this on-track, buts that a lot of stuff in a small box.
