Of course every dyno can be wildly different, so it's hard to say very accurately. But my general rule of thumb is that if you can make 1.45 horsepower per NHRA HP Factor, you'll run decent. I would guess the guys at the top of their classes are roughly 1.6+ hp/Factor.
So an example would be a 375hp aluminum headed 396" Big Block rated at 405hp by NHRA with an auto transmission should be: 1.45 x 405 = 587hp. Start getting over that and you'll be more and more competitive.Bad boys are probably in the 645hp range.
