I have blocked a couple for customers that wanted them that way but like Dan said you absolutely must run a good racing type filter and be willing to warm the engine up some before getting your foot in it.
I have also seen two nice engines ruined because the owners used a cheap filter that came apart and blocked the oil passage going into the block
