Coan XLT Turbo 350 Issues
In my wife's Cutlass we have always run a PG trans with no issues. A couple of years ago we purchased a Coan XLT lightweight turbo 350 w/clean neutral used but freshened from Coan with zero runs. We finally had a chance to try it recently and at the top of the wheelstand in low gear it felt like it almost like a rev limiter for a moment. I still ran it thru and went I clicked it into clean neutral and shut the motor off the engine continued to turn over. Pulled the trans to find the direct clutches had welded themselves together. After talking to Coan they wanted to see the valve body and pump and supplied a baffle for the pan to eliminated cavitation during a wheel stand. After $1200 later with all the upgrades the trans was redone with new clutches etc. and clearances provided by Coan. Fast forward to yesterday and we ran it again. Result? A complete repeat of our last runs. Car falls flat on its face at top of wheelstand and the clean neutral doesn't work. I've checked the cable adjustment several times. I haven't pulled the trans apart but I'm assuming the direct clutches are burnt up again. Any trans gurus out there with a solution?
