There's a lot of cars that will drop down to zero oil pressure when hitting the brakes at the finish line. An oil accumulator will curtail that issue and go a long ways to saving the engine.
And although I've never had an oil accumulator, I'm sure there is some performance available by running the pan with less oil. I'm putting one on my engine for oil pressure stability and the pan will be full.
