Re: Where Are They Now: Remember Him?
In the sixties, Elk went from a 55 wagon stocker, to a 57 sedan delivery with the 283/250 f.i. motor.
He also did the motor in Boertman's 59 "Budget Breaker".
Speaking of Boertman's yellow 59, one day, perhaps in 1968, Boertman was at National Trails. It was just a regular weekly race... no points meet or anything...but they ran a full compliment of classes in stock, super stock and modified.
Anywho, there was some unknown 1960 Chevy in Boertman's class which was P/S, I think. Time trials, to no one's surprise, Boertman had him covered easily. Come class run offs, this stranger in the 60 car beat Boertman pretty handily. It may have been the late Joe Dill that thought something wasn't right and investigated things.
Guy had changed from a two barrel to a four 4 barrel after tech and no one had noticed.
Ahhhhh....when cheating had some dignity, grace and style!
ps If Boertman reads these threads, please correct my memory if needed.
