Default Re: NEVER RUN oldsmobile 403.........................

Solid web 403s are rare. Most are window webs. Only about 2500 solid webs made. I just always thought all the solid webs went into GMC motorhomes. 77 and later Olds V8s were thinned out for weight savings. Some say this engine has cooling problems because of the windowed webs. If Olds sent this engine for racing it could be a solid web motor. I once got a common 403 out of a 77-79 Buick Riviera and ran it in a 69 Cutlass Cruiser wagon and it did ok. Had over 100k miles on it. Mine was bone stock and ran pretty close to a 350 Rocket. They started putting 403s in Trans Ams in California and high altitude cars. In 79 the highest production for Trans Ams at 109,000, around 92,000 or 94,000 had 403s. Those 403 Trans Ams were handicapped with airplane gears as opposed to the 400 Pontiac powered cars with 3.08 or 3.23.
