Re: Legal Ford 5.0 head with screw in studs
This issue has been brought up too many times and it keeps coming back.
Ford is not the only make that has switched to guide plates and studs under the rule changes that have taken place.
The current rules are as follows:
CAMSHAFT/LIFTERS
Pushrod guide plates permitted.
CYLINDER HEADS
The following are permitted: polylocks, jam nuts, screw-in larger-diameter rocker studs or pinned studs, bronze wall valve guides.
ROCKER ARMS
OEM or OEM-type aftermarket rocker arm permitted. Aftermarket rocker arm must be identical to OEM.
In a nutshell, the rule book as printed and as it reads, you are allowed pushrod guide plates and screw-in larger diameter rocker with the OEM style rocker arms.
Ever since this rule was implemented, I have seen many makes of engines, Ford, Oldsmobile and others, go thru teardown with no problems.
I believe the confusion has started with the new rule allowing aftermarket roller rockers which reads they must have the same configuration as OEM.
