I'm only asking because I was under the impression that manufacturing a ring/pinion would take very special equipment like CAD design, milling, turning, hobbing, heat treat, etc.
As well, I did not know there was a company that would build just one set.
If you search the forum, you will find the thread on the 5.00 gears that were custom made by Richmond. Besides the time and effort involved by the people who organized the production, I think they had to have 49 sets made.
It would be nice to know the name of a company that would side step all these obstacles and produce a one off gearset.
Thanks in advance for the name and number.

I had a lot of custom parts made for my cars back in the late 1980's including the first prototype "all roller bearing" 4 speed made by G&G transmissions that I ran in SS/A & B. George also made a couple of custom ratios for me that I used in that transmission when I ran it in SS/AM. I believe I was the first drag racer to run a carbon fiber driveshaft. That was in '89 or '90. I located a guy in Michigan who was making them for the Porsche teams and Roger Penske. When I moved to comp, Craig Liberty made an ultra low gearset for my clutchless 5 speed that I ran in C/SM and H/A. David Nickens built a couple sets of split dominators that we ran in B/A and C/A. I know that Glidden ran that combination for a while before they were banned in Pro Stock. Ball bearing carriers in a 9" Ford center section was another one. (Not pinion support, but the bearings on the spool.) I know that some if not most of these items are available "off of the shelf" now but back then you had to make em yourself or have them made. A number of the Pro Stock guys back then had custom ring and pinion sets. I believe they were made by Richmond Gear. I'd check with G&G or Craig Liberty if I needed one today. Going fast in this game is a 24/7 job and it's expensive. If you are not working on the car, you are building new parts and/or renting the race track to test them. We used to rent IRP for $1,500.00 per day to test new combinations. We were the only car there.
