Re: ADRL Bigfoot pic from dragrace central
[QUOTE=herbjr;231917]Terry back in the late 60's the guy who worked the hardest won. My dad had a work ethic like no one else. All he wanted to do was win and did it everywhere he went. He won over 60% of his races in 1968 and that is what got Buddy Martins attention. Now it's all about money and it will never go back to what it was.
Also one thing that helped my dad was the fact he was from Memphis Tn. Now that might not seem like much but Memphis was a HUGE hub for racers back then. You had Racing Head Service, Comp Cams, Cam Dynamics, Joe Lunati, Bill Taylor, TCI, Raymond Godman all based out of the Memphis area. The competition was tough and the technology that came out of that city is amazing. Raymond Godman actually had the Safety Safari at a race before the first NHRA nataional back in the 50's. This is when people made things happen.
Very true....I watched him thrash on the Dart on many weekends. The spectators just filled the stands on any given weekend at a local track....1/8th or 1/4 mile. Today there are many who will not even race on an 1/8th mile track. I didnt get to know your dad until the early 70's when Pro Stock took off. He always had a smile and had time for the fans. He really enjoyed life and what he was doing. I think the biggest problem is the ture car guy/culture is gone. No one cares to watch stock or S/S anymore as its become watered down so much. The race fan today would rather see nitro cars, nitrous junk, or circus acts.
The sporsman racing has changed so much since you ran your Convert. GT car and won the IHRA championship. I bet you didnt know I rememered that and the hassels over the Q-Jet carb that most said never came on your engine combo....LOL. Gezzzz that was a long time ago !
