Terry back in the late 60's the guy who worked the hardest won. My dad had a work ethic like no one else. All he wanted to do was win and did it everywhere he went. He won over 60% of his races in 1968 and that is what got Buddy Martins attention. Now it's all about money and it will never go back to what it was.
Also one thing that helped my dad was the fact he was from Memphis Tn. Now that might not seem like much but Memphis was a HUGE hub for racers back then. You had Racing Head Service, Comp Cams, Cam Dynamics, Joe Lunati, Bill Taylor, TCI, Raymond Godman all based out of the Memphis area. The competition was tough and the technology that came out of that city is amazing. Raymond Godman actually had the Safety Safari at a race before the first NHRA nataional back in the 50's. This is when people made things happen.
