Re: This clown doesn't even think we belong there.
I read the article and thought he was pretty "right on" as far as his summation of the debacle----With a race track that is under an extremely tight curfew to try and race as many cars as possible in every category known to man is just plan foolish!!! When ya factor in oildowns and vehicle accidents as well as normal breakage there just is not enough hours in a day to accomplish everything no matter how well the intentions. In the future I am willing to bet that
A) the quotas will be greatly diminished in the Super categories(SS excluded)
B) the Super categories for the most part will be contested at another venue or much earlier in the event with only the final 2 or 4 cars racing on Sunday
C) the Super catagories will be eliminated at Pomona altogether!!!
The authors interpretation of his experience compared to his reminicing about previous races at Pomona are trying to convey to the reader how much it has changed and the anticipation of excitement and waiting for the race to unfold has been lost in the oil downs and endless throttle stop racing which he as well as many others sitting around him found very boring. He then goes on to say that the Cacklefest and exhibition of "antique racecars" he found much more interesting than the actual racing activities that were going on at that time.
He goes on to say that for the betterment of the sport many things will have to change. The Status Quo is not providing the entertainment that he and others came to see.
He further goes on to critique Tom Compton for not being either visible enough to the reporters and unlike the Heads of other racing organizations like Nascar he needs to give a State of The NHRA to address the shortcomings as well as his ideas to better the NHRA in the future.
Basically not a poorly written article hopefully the suits at NHRA will take heed. I actually agree with him a lot.
