Did you even bother to look at NHRA.com? How about the "insurance and claims info" link under the Competition tab? Here, I'll make it easy for you:

Really, there's no conspiracy going on here. Insurance is expensive. I watched Mark Niver die at the track last year, there's a lot of cost (emotional, human, and monetary) when stuff like that happens.
As for "holy cow" diesel is up, give me a break. Two years ago I was paying over $5/gal for the stuff and I didn't stop racing, it's "only" $3.35 now.
Folks, racing is expensive and dangerous. If you want to do it on the cheap, do it at your local track's T&T...
